On Wednesday 21 June 2023, the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI) announced the election of Jean-Marc Goy as the new Chairperson of ALFI, following its annual general meeting (AGM).

The appointment is effective immediately and Jean-Marc Goy’s mandate will run for two years. In addition, a new Board of Directors has been elected.

According to ALFI, Jean-Marc has been a member of the company’s Board of Directors since June 2019 and was elected Vice-Chairperson in 2021. He has participated in a number of ALFI technical committees and working groups over the years and has been a regular speaker at industry events. Jean-Marc is also conducting officer and member of the board of Capital Group's Luxembourg management company and has over 25 years of experience in the Luxembourg fund industry.

Prior to joining Capital Group in 2018, Jean-Marc was Head of International Affairs for the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), the Luxembourg Supervisory Authority of the Financial Sector, where he worked for 20 years. Jean-Marc also practiced as a lawyer at a Luxembourg law firm between 1996 and 1998. He holds a Master in Law and a DEA from the University of Montpellier and was admitted as a lawyer to the Luxembourg Bar. Jean-Marc is fluent in Luxembourgish, German, French, English and Spanish.

Commenting on his election, Jean-Marc Goy said: "It is an honour to have been elected as the new Chairperson of ALFI. Asset managers hold an important role in assisting investors achieve their savings and financial goals while simultaneously promoting economic growth. This role will serve as the cornerstone for the development of the ALFI Ambition Paper, outlining our vision for 2025-2030, which we aim to finalise early next year."

Building upon the work of the previous ALFI Board, the following three key themes will reportedly be key priorities for the current mandate:

  • Continuing to strengthen ALFI, ensuring that it is an inclusive and representative association that encompasses the entire Luxembourg investment fund sector. Aiming for a continued commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion across all dimensions within the organisation and the industry as a whole.

  • Enhancing exchanges with decision-makers and stakeholders, actively engaging in the ongoing process of improving the legal and regulatory framework. Aiming for constructive, regular, meaningful and open-minded dialogue with decision-makers, administrations, regulators, investors, professional associations and other stakeholders, in both national and international contexts, to ensure the development of the investment fund sector.

  • Reinforcing Luxembourg's financial centre, consolidating the country’s international position in investment fund activities.

ALFI's 2025 Ambition Paper, designed and implemented under the four-year leadership of Corinne Lamesch, will form the starting point of their work and reportedly remains a strong focus.

Earlier this year ALFI revised the structure and composition of its Board to better reflect the diversity of its stakeholders and enhance inclusiveness. The number of Board Directors was therefore increased from 24 to 29.
