According to ADEM, Luxembourg's unemployment agency, the number of resident jobseekers available for work as of 31 January 2022 stood at 15,470; over one year, this represents a decrease of 4,412 people, or 22.2%.

The unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal variations, calculated by STATEC, now stands at 4.9% (down from 5.2% the previous month).

Figures were down for all categories of jobseekers, including those who had been registered with ADEM for more than twelve months. However, the long-term unemployed still represented 49.3% of all available resident jobseekers.

Despite a slight increase observed in January 2022, the number of new registrations remained relatively low. A total of 2,359 residents registered with ADEM during the month in question, a drop of 341 people (or 12.6%) compared to January 2021. The number of registrations was thus below the level observed in 2018.

The number of resident jobseekers assigned to an employment measure stood at 4,298 as of 31 January 2022. Over one year, this constitutes an increase of 208 people, or 5.1%.

A total of 7,591 resident jobseekers received full unemployment benefit in January 2022. Over one year, this represents a decrease of 2,475 people, or 24.6%.

During the month of January 2022, employers declared 4,083 vacancies to ADEM, which corresponds to an increase of 46.2% over one year. The total number of positions available at the end of January 2022 stood at 10,769 (up 63.6% compared to the previous year).
