The Union des Entreprises Luxembourgeoises (UEL), Luxembourg's union for private-sector businesses, has announced the appointment of Michel Reckinger as the new President of UEL.
Outgoing president Nicolas Buck informed the UEL Board of Directors of his decision not to seek a renewal of his term at the end of the calendar year. The Board of Directors unanimously appointed Michel Reckinger, President of the Fédération des Artisans, to succeed him as President of the UEL from 1 January 2021.
Michel Reckinger is an engineer who graduated from ETH Zurich as well as the owner of a family business founded in 1911 and employing more than 250 people. Mr Reckinger is thus well acquainted with the challenges facing companies in Luxembourg.
After taking over the vice-presidency then the presidency of FEDIL and finally the presidency of the UEL, Nicolas Buck now wants to focus entirely on his role as a business leader.
“I am very proud of what the UEL has accomplished since I had the honour of chairing its Board of Directors. And I’m grateful for the trust that has been placed in me. But I’m primarily an entrepreneur and a business leader and now I want to have more time to devote to it,” he explained. “I am delighted that Michel Reckinger is taking my place and I know he will be able to defend the interests of companies at a time when economic issues are particularly important to them".
Jean-Paul Olinger, Director of the UEL, added that "the excellent collaboration with Nicolas Buck has allowed us to continue the development of the UEL whether in terms of skills or organisation, and it is today strengthened to pursue its objectives in the interests of its members and in support of companies in its areas of expertise. The arrival of Michel Reckinger will continue the work undertaken with a motivated team that is committed to serving UEL members and the companies they represent".
Board members have already thanked Nicolas Buck for his commitment; under his presidency, the UEL continued to be the preferred interlocutor of the public authorities and social partners in matters of labour law, social security or corporate taxation and health and safety at work, as well as sustainable development through the INDR.
The UEL, together with its members, has committed itself to continuing to actively meet the challenge of tomorrow: maintaining the competitiveness and attractiveness of Luxembourg companies in an increasingly competitive international context.
