Luxembourg's Ministry of Finance has announced the appointment of Thierry Flamand as Director of the Insurance Commission (Commissariat aux assurances).

On the proposal of the Minister of Finance, Pierre Gramegna, the Cabinet of the Luxembourg government decided yesterday to appoint Thierry Flamand as Director of the Insurance Commission for a six-year term. Thierry Flamand will succeed Claude Wirion on 1 January 2021.

A Luxembourg-Belgian national, Thierry Flamand has more than 25 years of experience in consulting in the insurance, reinsurance and pensions sectors, as well as in-depth expertise in actuarial services. He began his career in 1995 with a Luxembourg actuarial consulting company, before joining one of the major Luxembourg consulting firms, where he held various positions and was promoted to associate level in 2008. Mr Flamand also worked in China as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for an international insurance group. His national and international references make him an expert in regulatory issues related to the insurance and pensions sectors.

Thierry Flamand holds bachelor degrees in actuarial sciences and mathematical sciences from the Université libre de Bruxelles.

Pierre Gramegna, Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, commented: “I would like to warmly thank Claude Wirion for his exemplary commitment over the past few years at the head of the Insurance Commission and to offer him my sincere congratulations on a brilliant career in the insurance sector, which owes him a lot. With more than 25 years of experience in the sector, I am confident that Mr Flamand is the right person to respond to changes in the market and the regulatory framework and thus to continue to ensure the success of the sector in Luxembourg. I wish him good luck in this exciting role”.
