The number of people in Luxembourg in paid employment has increased by 0.8% in the second quarter of 2016 compared to the previous, and by 3% in relation to the second quarter of last year, according to a report published by Statec, Luxembourg's Statistical Office.
The most dynamic job sectors are specialist activities and support services, which has experienced an increased employment rate of 6.4% in a year, as well as that of IT and communication, which has seen a 3.3% increase. The working dynamic of the first sector stems from accounting services and temporary employment agencies, whilst the latter comes from IT programming and consulting.
These two areas alone, which encompass 19% of paid employment, are responsible for having created 38.5% of jobs between the second quarter of 2015 and that of 2016. The number of cross-border workers has increased slightly faster than the number of resident workers: 4.1% compared to 2% in a year. Among residents, the number of employees coming from the European Union has risen by 2.5% and even the number of those coming from third countries has witnessed an increase of 7.8%.
