On Friday, the Cabinet of the Luxembourg Government approved a plan to help those aged 45+ who have lost their job after 20+ years of paying into the social security system.

The initiative aims to extend for two years the payment of unemployment benefit for a further six months for people in such circumstances as well as those who have been made redundant by firms receiving partial unemployment support for at least six months at the time of dismissal.

In addition, a new initiative for those aged 30+ was also approved, with internships and professional reintegration employment contracts to be reserved for vulnerable members of society.

Specific details are expected to be announced shortly of how these changes will come into effect.
