The official launch of the LuxID digital identity solution took place in Luxembourg on Tuesday 5 December 2023.

Earlier this year, on 13 July 2023, Cactus, CFL, POST Luxembourg and RTL Luxembourg created an economic interest group formalising their cooperation aimed at setting up a shared digital identity solution which is free-of-charge for the end user.

According to the partners, LuxID is a secure shared login solution offering a "unified" and "simplified" experience on websites and applications provided by companies in Luxembourg. It uses a single set of login credentials for multiple applications.

LuxID users can manage their personal data and control their access transparently, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), according to the partners.

The LuxID solution is entirely hosted in the Grand Duchy in POST Luxembourg data centres. It is intended to be used as widely as possible (in addition to being used by the four partners behind the initiative) and is aimed at companies of all sizes in Luxembourg and the Greater Region as well as public actors. LuxID is made available to interested companies and institutions on the basis of an annual fee adapted to the number of their respective end users. The basic offer is free for up to 1,000 end users.

Marco van Maris, President of LuxID GIE and Head of Digital at POST Luxembourg, commented: "Our goal is to simplify and enrich the user experience on digital platforms while offering a trusted alternative hosted in the Grand Duchy. The close collaboration between the partners during the launch of LuxID demonstrates a shared commitment to security and excellence in digital services."
