IEE S.A. today became the first company to set up on the "Luxembourg Automobility Campus" dedicated to innovation in the automotive sector.
Founded in Luxembourg in 1989, IEE, a flagship of the Luxembourg industry, specialises in automotive safety systems and in particular in the development of intelligent sensor systems. In a first phase, on Monday 27 May 2019, 285 IEE employees began to work in the "IEE Innovation Centre" on the campus located in the town of Bissen near the locality of Roost.
The IEE company employs more than 4,100 people worldwide, including more than 10% in research and development (R&D). About 635 people are currently working for IEE in Luxembourg, split between the sites in Contern, Echternach and the company's new headquarters in Bissen. In the long term, IEE will relocate all of its activities from Contern to Bissen.
In 2013, the Ministry of the Economy took the initiative to develop a 14-hectare campus dedicated to innovation in the Luxembourg automotive sector, in partnership with the companies IEE and Goodyear. The quality tyre manufacturer is planning to move to the site by the end of 2021. The aim of the campus is to support research and development activities and to consolidate and even strengthen the competitiveness of the national sector of automotive contractors.
The planning of the Bissen site as a real integrated campus and the geographical rapprochement facilitate exchanges between the different actors and allow to exploit important synergies. In addition, the automotive campus is in line with the strategy of the third industrial revolution known as "Rifkin". In addition to the supply of renewable energies generated on site, the common and modular infrastructures such as the 500-space car park are built according to the principles of the circular economy and sustainable construction, by integrating a centre for start-ups for activities related to smart mobility and the automotive industry.
Michel Witte, CEO of IEE, said: "With our new premises on the Automobility Campus we are well positioned at the level of work tools and infrastructure to remain competitive and dynamic in a constantly changing market".
