Simone LaTorre;

Wafer is an international startup with HQ, CEO, and main team in Luxembourg, with a second office in USA and a third office in India; Wafer was funded in 2015 and, on 13 September 2017, officially released its revolutionary product, Wafer Messenger, a new free messaging app for both iOS and Android.

Wafer has 10 employees across the 3 offices and it is growing very fast, both in terms of team size and in terms of userbase. The company has successfully raised over €900k and it is now starting to "probe the waters" for the next investment round.

Wafer Messenger is already installed on several hundreds of thousands of smartphones worldwide and the team works to release new features at a very fast pace.

ABOUT THE APP

We live in a world where each and every one of us is constantly juggling conversations on between 4 and 10 different chat apps that are installed on each smartphone. We all currently accept this insanity as the “norm”, because no chat app allows us to reach all our phone contacts. In other words, today each chat app’s contactable network is limited to their respective installed user bases (WhatsApp can only talk to WhatsApp, Viber can only talk to Viber, and so on...)

David Pierce once wrote on Wired: “Frankly, [having multiple chat apps] it’s a horrible system — and it’s past time to change it. It’s not just that it’s annoying to have 20 different conversations across 20 different apps. (Which it is.) It’s not that I mind remembering where I was already talking to someone or guessing which app they’re most likely to check quickly. (Which I do.) It’s that, by not picking a place to congregate, we’re missing out on one of the most powerfully useful new things in tech: the all-encompassing messaging app.”

So the question is: how would a more versatile, value-adding, and enjoyable communication platform look like? What would be the characteristics of a chat app that puts user’s experience at its core? The team at Wafer thinks that this revolutionary chat app should certainly be limitless in reach, should allow for real life-like communications through dynamic multi-layering, and should allow all of us to seamlessly add to our social life through ultimate connectivity.

Fast forward a couple of years, two successful investment rounds, the creation of a stellar team of 10 people between Luxembourg, United States of America, and India, and Wafer Messenger - the limitless messaging space - is now available. Wafer is a free app for both iOS and Android and, yes, it is also available in Luxembourgish.

Here are the 3 key features of Wafer, but so many more are already deployed and others are in the development pipeline:

- Wafer allows its users to reach all their contacts from day one, even if those contacts are not on Wafer (yet).

- Wafer also allows integrating up to six media in any single message, and it allows building upon previous conversations like in a real face-to-face interaction.

- Wafer also allows sharing your most creative content on Facebook and Twitter, at the same time, automatically taking care of all due conversions.

ABOUT THE CEO

Simone La Torre is a 29-year old Italian, with a Master in Aerospace Engineering and a second Master in Business Management. After having lived in many countries and funded 3 start-ups, he joined SES, the world's largest satellite operator in Luxembourg, where he worked for nearly 4 years. Here in Luxembourg, he found fertile soil for his new start-up and, with his partner in this venture and co-founder Robert Llanes, he could find a group of private investors willing to believe in Wafer Messenger and its revolutionary features.
