Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy has confirmed that, on Thursday 22 December 2022, the board members of the new Competition Authority, i.e. the Competition Council, were sworn in.
Following the adoption of the law of 30 November 2022 on competition, the Competition Council will become the Competition Authority of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg from 1 January 2023.
The president of the college, Pierre Barthelmé, was sworn in by Franz Fayot, Minister of the Economy. The permanent members as well as the alternate members of the college were then sworn in by the president of the Competition Authority.
The Board of the Competition Authority, appointed for a period of 7 years, is composed as follows:

Effective advisers: Sven Frisch, Tom Mannes, Mattia Melloni, Jean-Claude Weidert
Alternate Councillors: Pierre Calms, Thea Harles-Walch, Thierry Hoscheit, Christiane Junck, Thierry Lallemang, Anick Wolff
The new Competition Authority will operate as an independent public institution with legal personality and financial and administrative autonomy.
The Competition Authority will apply national and European legislation relating to the prohibition of agreements and abuse of a dominant position. Beyond this mission, the Authority is also responsible for researching and sanctioning violations of unfair practices in the agri-food sector as well as analyzing the relationship between digital platforms and their professional users.
The Competition Authority will retain the offices and contact details of the current headquarters of the Competition Council.
