On Tuesday 7 December 2021, ALEBA, the trade union representing staff who work in the banking sector across the Grand Duchy, reiterated it stance on the government's statements on applying CovidCheck in businesses from 15 January 2022, instead urging companies to continue teleworking practices where possible.
The union has communicated that it regrets that it was not invited to the negotiating table with other national unions, despite being the majority union representative of the financial sector, one of the main pillars of the Luxembourg economy.
The trade union has reiterated its position and has once again suggested that companies prioritise teleworking as an alternative, and bear the costs associated with testing unvaccinated employees whose presence is required on site. This is to avoid any discrimination, to guarantee "social peace" in the company and to ensure fair treatment for each employee. Current health measures (barrier gestures, social distancing, mask wearing, etc.), as well as individual self-testing, must however remain in place in each company.
It acknowledged that the extension of tax agreements has just been signed between Luxembourg and Germany and stated that it is optimistic that an identical arrangement will be found with Luxembourg Belgian and French neighbours before the end of the month, thus ensuring the continuity of teleworking without consequences for border employees and residents, in this period of pandemic.
