The 2020 web edition of the Luxembourg Internet Days, organised by LU-CIX ASBL, kicked off on Monday morning; this year's event is taking place exclusively online, on the Swapcard platform, from 17 to 19 November.

The 2020 Luxembourg Internet Days will focus on "Network Security & Cloud Security - Crisis from Resistance and Management to Resilience". The event will host different parts: official allocutions and keynote presentations; around 40 virtual exhibitors; a business speed-dating tool; panel discussions with participating experts; and workshops and business cases.

Highlights include this morning's speech by Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, who highlighted the specificity of this year's event within an unprecedented health context. He stressed that "it is in moments of social isolation that we cherish digital communication". The Prime Minister, who is also Luxembourg's Minister for Communications and Media, suggested that participants take full advantage of the "digital alternatives" put in place for this year's special web edition, namely the virtual coffee breaks and networking chats, which allow people to connect whilst social distancing.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel also took the opportunity to thank professionals in the ICT sector and networks for the excellent work carried out during the intense migration to teleworking and distance training and learning as part of the measures aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19: "The quality of life of all of us depended on it, you were - and still are! - one of the pillars during this unprecedented crisis”.

This year also marks the first edition headed by Claude Demuth, who took over from Marco Houwen as Chairman of LU-CIX at the end of June. Mr Demuth praised the fact that the event was able to take place within the framework of COVID-19 restrictions: “I am happy to note that more than 1,000 professionals, not only connecting from Luxembourg but from all over the world, are participating in this first 100% digital edition of Luxembourg Internet Days”.

Other high-level allocutions on the agenda include those of Marc Hansen, Luxembourg's Minister Delegate for Digitalisation, and Juhan Lepassaar, Executive Director at European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), on Monday, Christiane Canenbley, Deputy Head of Cabinet to European Commission Executive Vice President, on Tuesday and Franz Fayot, Minister of the Economy on Wednesday morning.
