On Tuesday 3 June 2025, Luxembourg’s women’s national football team claimed their fifth consecutive victory in the final group stage match of the UEFA Nations League, securing promotion to League B for the next season.
Daniel Santos' team played their final Group C3 match away against Kazakhstan, who could have overtaken Luxembourg at the top of the table with a win. The teams had drawn 2-2 in their first meeting earlier in the competition.
As in their previous game, Luxembourg found themselves trailing early in the match. Kazakhstan were reduced to ten players in the 6th minute when defender Karyna Norbayeva received a red card for a foul on Caroline Jorge. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the hosts took the lead in the 15th minute through Karina Zhumabaikyzy, who scored directly from a free-kick.
The Red Lionesses created several chances near Nazym Ismailova’s goal but were unable to change the 1-0 scoreline before the break.
Early in the second half, Daniel Santos' team found the equaliser they were looking for. In the 51st minute, team captain Laura Miller scored following an assist from Marta Estevez.
Just eight minutes later, the same Marta Estevez provided another assist, this time for Kimberley Dos Santos, who put Luxembourg ahead 2-1.
Both teams created further chances before the end of regular time, but the score remained unchanged until the second minute of added time, when Olivia Konsbruck and Anna Miny came on for Luxembourg. Just a minute later, Konsbruck provided the assist and Miny scored her first goal of the current UEFA Nations League campaign.
The final score of 3-1 in favour of the visitors confirmed promotion for Daniel Santos’ side, who will compete in League B, the second highest tier of the UEFA Nations League, for the first time in the team’s history.
