On Friday 4 April 2025, Luxembourg’s women’s national football team secured their second victory in three group stage matches in the UEFA Nations League.

Daniel Santos’ team, which had collected four points from two matches in Group C3 and sat in second place, travelled to Yerevan to face group leaders Armenia, who had won their opening two fixtures.

Just four minutes into the game, Laura Miller broke through the Armenian defence and delivered a backheel pass to Amy Thompson, who converted with a precise shot into the bottom right corner to give Luxembourg an early lead.

The Red Lioness maintained their momentum and doubled the advantage in the 19th minute. A collective move resulted in a cross from Joana Lourenço, deflected by Caroline Jorge into the path of Charlotte Schmit, who scored with a first-time finish at the near post to make it 0-2.

Armenia responded in the 29th minute, when a corner found Svetlana Karagezian, who reduced the hosts’ deficit to a single goal. The teams went into the break with the score 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

In the 50th minute, after the break, Luxembourg extended their lead. Amy Thompson capitalised on a defensive error and scored her second goal of the match with a powerful long-range volley, making it 1-3. The score remained unchanged until the end of the match.

After three matches in the UEFA Nations League, Luxembourg’s women’s national team now sits at the top of Group C3 with seven points. Their next fixture is an away match against bottom-placed Liechtenstein, scheduled for Tuesday 8 April 2025.
