After losing to Georgia at the UEFA EURO 2024 play-offs last week, Luxembourg secured a 2-1 victory over Kazakhstan in a friendly home match on Tuesday 26 March 2024.
The match, played at the Stade de Luxembourg on Tuesday evening, got off to a discouraging start for the Red Lions when Adilet Sadybekov scored Kazakhstan's only goal just two minutes in.
Luxembourg went on to even the score, thanks to an unchallenged goal by Gerson Rodrigues in the 24th minute. There were some close calls but a goal by Danel Sinani just before half time (45') would ultimately result in victory for Luxembourg, who had dominated most of the first half.
Luxembourg: Anthony Moris (GK); Florian Bohnert; Marvin Martins; Lars Gerson; Laurent Jans (C); Danel Sinani; Leandro Barreiro; Christopher Martins; Mathias Olesen; Yvandro Borges Sanches; Gerson Rodrigues.
If they had won last week's match against Georgia, the Red Lions would have been playing the EURO 2024 play-off final on Tuesday. Instead, Georgia went on to beat Greece 4-2 and qualified for EURO 2024 for the first time.
In their next match, Luxembourg's Red Lions will go up against Belgium in Brussels on 8 June 2024.
