Directed by Pasha Rafiy for Les Films Fauves and featuring Luxembopurg's Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn.

Documentary, 85 mins. In Luxembourgish, French, English and German, with Sub-titles in English and French.

The film follows Luxembopurg's Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, as he travels the world, representing the tiny Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the European Union (during Luxembourg's Presidency) on the world stage.

It provides an insight into how diplomacy operates and is conducted at that level, tracing Minister Asselborn as he travels first to the United Nations in New York City, then Iran and later to Iraq. He travels to Cairo in Egypt in relation to Gaza and Palestine, to Russia in relation to Ukraine, and to India, Israel and Germany, the latter conferning the refugee crisis. During many of these trips he is accompanied by civil servants; unfortunately we do not hear from them.

The documentary is without narrative and sometimes goes a while without dialogue. It is always insightful and, at times, humourous, as it follows Jean Asselborn on his travels, in planes and cars, as well as the solitude when alone in hotel rooms in the evenings. At times the focus switches to his home in Steinfort where he is either taking phone calls while trying to tend to his garden, or catching up on sleep on his couch. And it covers his love of cycling, with him both in the Swiss mountains as well as in Paris when Andy Schleck is awarded the trophy for winning (retrospectively) the Tour de France in 2010.

The audience sees his reporting back to the Luxembourg parliament, at the Chambre des Deputés, and there is also a scene in Brussels with Jean Allelborn talking with Jean-Claude Juncker.

From its premier at Ciné Utopia on Friday evening, the film is now on general release in Luxembourg. Jean Asselborn is also attending a roadshow of screenings across the Grand Duchy over the next few weeks where, following the screenings, he engages in Q&A sessions.
