Luxembourg Film Fund has announced the selection of two Luxembourgish co-productions for the 71st Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) and the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival respectively.
Radu Jude's fictional feature film "Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn", a co-production between Romania, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic and Croatia, will defend its colours in official competition at the 2021 Berlinale.
The Luxembourg company Paul Thiltges Distributions (Paul Thiltges and Adrien Chef), co-producer of the film, notably ensured, in partnership with the Philophon and Espera Productions studios, the post-production image, sound and special effects of the film.
Two films will thus be representing Luxembourg at the Berlinale this year: "Mission Ulja Funk" (Samsa Film) and "Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn" (Paul Thiltges Distributions).
Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the Berlinale will be held this year in two stages. The competition and market will take place partially online in March with public screenings being held in June 2021. An international jury will watch the films in Berlin and award the prizes, while the European Film Market will take place entirely online from 1 to 5 March 2021. The winning films will then be presented to the public from 9 to 20 June 2021 as part of a special event.
In addition, the interactive virtual reality (VR) documentary "Under the Skin", co-produced by Tarantula Luxembourg (Donato Rotunno) and directed by João Inada, is in selection at the SXSW Film Festival to be held from 12 to 20 March 2021 in Austin, Texas in the United States; the online version is taking place from 16 to 20 March 2021.
This co-production between Brazil, Luxembourg, China and Germany had its world premiere at the International Documentary Fim Festival in Amsterdam (IDFA) and is selected for its North American premiere at SXSW in the “Virtual Cinema” section.
