On Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August 2015, the pedestrian areas of Luxembourg City will be enlivened with the famous outdoor art festival, 'Streeta(rt)nimation'.
The Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) today released the programme for the artistic event, to be held this weekend. This year, 25 international associations are on tour, and will mark their presence here in Luxembourg with 80 street performances.
Shows will be installed at Place d'Armes, Place Guillaume II, Grand Rue (Puits Rouge), Rue des Capucins and Rue du Marché-aux-Herbes, with other performances performed on-the-go, allowing for very spontaneous contact with the public. A full range of theatre genres will be presented against the backdrop of Luxembourg's capital, including stilt-walkers, acrobats, jugglers, dancers, comedians and circus people.
Among the highlights announced for the 2015 edition are:
- BOULDEGOM THÉÂTRE (F) - 'Encore Pluvieux' - An ambulatory show featuring tender and funny characters on stilts. They wander in silence, three metres above the ground.
- TEATRO PAVANA (NL) - "Giraffe" - An ambulatory show. Stately and impassive, they argue, munch a few leaves and greet spectators. Giraffes are nice, but beware: they are still wild animals.
- COMPANY MIRADOR (B) - "Okolo" - Rue du Marché-aux-Herbes. Carried on a giant wheel, the actors meet and mingle to give courses in playfulness and balance suspension.
- LES ZANIMOS (F) - "Andrée Kupp, Dresseuse et Montreuse de Légumes" – Place Guillaume II. A drunk pepper, acrobatic tomatoes and carrot rappers - these spectacular vegetables come to life under the direction of Andrée Kupp and will offer you secrets through a whirlwind of dance, music and somersaults.
The programme also includes two unusual nighttime shows. On Saturday 8 August, the Zic Zacou company (F) will perform a poetic show in Place Guillaume II entitled 'Le Kiosque...ou la fanfare oubliée'. This will involve a magical kiosk which has abandoned its own circus and will put on music box tunes and take the musicians on a crazy parade.
Then on Sunday 9 August, the Brassballett (D) company will close the festival at 21:00 with a show in the Place d'Armes mixing music and dance through a combination of various jazz, funk, Latin and classical styles.
To get to the festival, the public is invited to use the Park & Ride and shuttle bus service. Line 1 will run on both days every 10-15 minutes from 13:00 at Parking Bouillon towards the Gare district and Hamilius Quai 1 in the City Centre. The return journey will leave every 15 minutes from Hamilius Quai 2 in the City Centre to the P+R Bouillon on Saturday until 00:20. The CN1 line will then run every 15 minutes until 04:02 on Sunday. Line 1 will run every 10-15 minutes until 23.30.
The detailed programme is available online at www.streetanimation.lu and will also be distributed in the LCTO, as well as in cafés and shops in the City centre.
