Local nature conservation non-profit organisation natur&ëmwelt has confirmed that the annual "Birdwatch Weekend" is taking place at three locations in Luxembourg on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October 2025.
On the first weekend of October, natur&ëmwelt, together with its partner organisations natur&ëmwelt section "Ieweschte Syrdall/Beringungsstation Schlammwiss", natur&ëmwelt section "Nordstad" and the Nature and Forest Agency (ANF), is inviting the public to the Euro Birdwatch Weekend.
On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October, interested parties will have the opportunity to witness bird migration at three different locations, accompanied by experts who will provide insights into the life of migratory birds.
Birdwatch Weekend takes place simultaneously in over 30 countries. In Luxembourg, visitors can expect "a varied programme with guided excursions, exciting observations and insights into the scientific work of bird ringing". The organisers added that "early risers will particularly benefit, as the best observations can be made in the morning hours".
On Saturday 4 October, natur&ëmwelt's "Ieweschte Syrdall" section is organising an excursion in collaboration with the "Schlammwiss" bird ringing station to the nature reserve of the same name near Uebersyren. Participants will gain a direct insight into the work of the bird ringing station and learn why this reed bed is so important for bird migration. The meeting point is at 09:00 in the car park at the football field in Munsbach, just a few minutes from the train station. Sturdy shoes and warm clothing are recommended. The tour will be offered in Luxembourgish, German, French and English. Registration is required via email: schlammwiss@gmail.com or via tel.: 621-29-36-95.
On Sunday 5 October, the "Nordstad" section of natur&ëmwelt is holding a birdwatching event at the Weiler hamlet in the municipality of Wincrange. Starting at 09:00, water birds that stop at the ponds on their migration route will be presented. Visitors are invited to bring binoculars if they have some. Information will be available in Luxembourgish, German, French and English. Registration is required by Saturday 4 October via email: comite@naturemwelt-nordstad.lu or via tel.: 621-65-04-70.
Also on 5 October, the Biodiversum in Remerschen will open its doors from 10:00 to 17:00 for a varied programme of events. As well as bird ringing and guided tours, visitors can enjoy a treasure hunt, children's workshops, artistic displays, information stands and a nature shop. Early risers can observe the bird ringing process live in the large observation hut in the Remich lagoon from 08:30 to 11:00. From 09:00 to 11:30, there will be guided tours in German and Luxembourgish on the topic of bird migration, including a visit to the ringing station. A guided tour in French will start at 09:15 and finish at 11:45.
