On Friday 21 February 2025, Luxembourg's veterinary and food administration, together with the Nature and Forest Administration, reporte that, since 5 February, several dead wild birds - including rooks (Corvus frugilegus), carrion crows (Corvus corone), starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) and collared doves (Streptopelia decaocto) - have been found in Cessange.

These dead birds were taken by the nature administration to the veterinary and food laboratories (LVA) for further examination. During the toxicological examination at the LVA, a "rodenticide active ingredient" (rat poison) was detected in high concentrations. However, this active ingredient may only be used within the EU in rodenticide biocidal products (agents for controlling rodents) for indoor use only. Improper use can lead to poisoning in domestic and wild animals.

If anyone finds dead wild animals in the Cessange park or in the surrounding area, they are urged to report their findings to the responsible forest ranger (tel: 621-202196 or 621-202110). If one sees wild animals that look sick or are behaving unusually, one is asked to call the wildlife station in Dudelange (tel: 2651-3990).

Anyone who suspects poisoning in humans or pets is urged to consult a doctor or veterinarian immediately. The poison control number for Luxembourg is tel: 8002-5500.
