The Water Management Agency (AGE) has announced the launch of a public consultation on the timeline and work programme for the 4th management plan under the Water Framework Directive.
The AGE has published the timeline and work programme for the 4th management plan concerning the Luxembourgish sections of the Rhine and Meuse river basin districts. This document is open for public consultation until 14 July 2025 and is available in French and German on the AGE website at the following link: https://gd.lu/c9LF8S.
Stakeholders and the general public are invited to provide feedback on the timeline and work programme, which precede the publication of the next management plan covering the period from 2027 to 2033.
The Water Framework Directive (WFD), transposed into Luxembourgish law through the amended Law of 19 December 2008 on Water, ensures active public participation in the development, revision and updating of management plans.
According to the WFD, all European water bodies must achieve good ecological status by 2027. However, despite significant efforts in recent years, this objective remains far from being achieved both at the European and national levels. For this reason, the new work programme developed by the AGE aims to bring together all stakeholders to collectively tackle this shared challenge.
As part of the procedure outlined in Article 56 of the amended Law of 19 December 2008 on Water, the public is invited to submit their written observations and comments on this document by 14 July 2025 via:
The National Public Inquiry Portal: National Public Inquiry Portal - Luxembourg
or
Postal mail addressed to:
