On Thursday 13 October 2022, Luxembourg's Minister of Social Security, Claude Haagen, met with the representatives of Action Solidarité Tiers Monde asbl (ASTM) and Greenpeace Luxembourg, as well as two  human rights activists from Brazil, Carolina de Moura Campos and Danilo Chammas.

The human rights activists from Brazil are currently in Luxembourg for the world premiere of the documentary "The illusion of abundance" which follows the journey of three women human rights activists in Latin America.

The meeting focused on the role of institutional investors in preventing human rights violations and environmental damage in the course of economic activities. In this context, Minister Haagen stressed the importance of an exclusion list which today includes around 140 companies (version of 30 September 2022), including mining companies in Brazil which are not in line with the commitments of the Luxembourg Pension Fund (Fond de compensation - FDC) or which do not respect the international conventions ratified by Luxembourg.

Minister Haagen also underlined the FDC's continued commitment to more responsible investments and reiterated the importance of open and constructive dialogue between the government, the FDC and civil society organisations.
