A "United for Climate Justice" strike, organised by over 20 local organisations, will be taking place this Friday 27 September 2019 at 15:00 across Luxembourg City.

The strike concludes "Week for Future", a week full of internationally coordinating strikes and initiatives in the fight against climate change. Youth strikers, climate activists, NGOs and unions across the world will unite in one of the biggest ever waves of climate activism.

In Luxembourg, the organisers have expressed hope that the mass mobilisation will convince the government to more efficiently address the climate crisis. In the Facebook event description, they explained: "When we talk about climate justice, we mean justice between the global north and south, between generations, between rich and poor. All the existing inequalities will be aggravated by the imminent climate breakdown, so they need to be thought and fought together".

Everyone, regardless of age or profession, is invited to participate in this strike for climate justice on Friday afternoon. The protesters will depart from different meeting points in the capital at 15:00 (Place de l'Europe, Lycée de Garçons Luxembourg, Geeseknäppchen and the Gare Centrale), before joining forces at Place de Clairefontaine in Luxembourg-ville at 16:30.

The Ville de Luxembourg (VdL) authorities have announced that, in the context of this strike, traffic disruptions are to be expected in the capital from around 14:00 to 20:00 (the scheduled end time). They have confirmed that the VdL along with the Luxembourg Police and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) will supervise the strike and take the necessary measures to ensure the smooth running of the event.
