The Embassy of Belarus in Belgium and Luxembourg has issued a detailed comment by Belarus’ Foreign Ministry, on a series of EU statements which condemned the fraudulent presidential elections in Belarus three years ago.

The EU expressed profound concern about human rights violations, with many political prisoners suffering ill-treatment and torture in Belarus. Lukashenko's administration's actions, including supporting Russia's aggression against Ukraine, threaten regional security, the EU stressed. Sanctions have been imposed, and the EU reiterated its support for Belarusian democratic efforts. It urged dialogue for free and fair elections, offering economic support for democratic reforms.

Belarus’ statement spanned over about six pages (around 1600 words) and rejected statements from the European Union and member states regarding Belarusian elections, considering them as interference in internal affairs. Furthermore, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry criticised the EU’s sanctions and restrictions, noting that they are harmful to ordinary Belarusians. Belarus also asserted its readiness for dialogue but criticised the EU's lack of direct engagement and reliance on sanctions. In addition, Belarus defended its electoral process and justified its defensive actions, including the potential deployment of nuclear weapons, in response to “perceived threats from NATO” and EU support for Ukraine, among other accusations of additional misconduct and alleged violations of international agreements.
