In order to educate young people on both digital and equal opportunities, Digital Lëtzebuerg and the Ministry of Equal Opportunities will both have a stand at the Student Fair being held at Luxexpo from Thursday 12 to Friday 13 November 2015.
Stand 3A11 of the Ministry of Equal Opportunities will aim to combat the traditional and conservative attitudes towards the world of education and employment which designate specific choices based on gender, by instead demonstrating how education, professions and trades can be equally open to anyone, regardless of gender. Interested students will be able to exchange views and experiences with professionals who have taken the 'road less travelled' in terms of gendered employment, as well as produce a personal skills assessment.
Faced with a shortage of increasingly important ICT professionals in Luxembourg as throughout the European Union, Digital Lëtzebuerg will also be present at the 2015 Student Fair to encourage the development of digital skills and educate young people on the opportunties available in the ICT sector.
The Digital Lëtzebuerg stand has been set up by the Media and Communications Service of the Government and the BEE CREATIVE initiative, and will be offering various workshops on tech programming and 3D printing.
The promotion of e-skills is a national priority of the Government, reflected in the creation of Digital(4)Education and Maker spaces, as well as an objective at the European level. To this end, the Luxembourg Presidency has organised various conferences tackling digital literacy, including 'Digital Economy: Let's be Ready for the New Jobs!' on 10 and 11 November 2015 by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy and 'Transforming Europe towards the Digital Age' to be held on 15 December 2015 in Luxembourg.
Luxembourg Prime Minister and Minister of Communications and Media, Xavier Bettel, also deciided to invite not only European Minister in charge of the Telecom and ICT sectirm but also Minister of Labour, of Education and Research to further discuss the issue of digital skills.
