On Monday 28 April 2025, Luxembourg’s Minister Delegate for Tourism, Eric Thill, and the Mayor of Vianden, François Weyrich, outlined details of the first edition of the Eislek Gravel Luxembourg race, which will take place on Saturday 21 June 2025 in Vianden.
In a press release, the Ministry of the Economy described the cross-border course as a historic milestone. It will be the first Gravel race organised in Luxembourg and part of the UCI Gravel World Series.
The race, for all age categories, will begin with a 25 kilometre loop in Vianden, followed by a German loop.
This international event, open to both amateur and elite cyclists, is organised by the non-profit organisation Letz'Xplore, in collaboration with the Luxembourg Cycling Federation (FSCL), the municipality of Vianden, as well as numerous partners. The Eislek Gravel Luxembourg competition is described as having a unique route, which combines nature and urban planning. Participants will “have the opportunity to climb the famous Grand Rue climb to Vianden Castle, while exploring the lush forests and steep valleys that characterise the region”. The route is expected to showcase the diversity of the landscape, while offering a sporting challenge worthy of the biggest gravel competitions.
The ministry added that the objective of the race is to promote Luxembourg as a cycling destination, also for gravel, by bringing together up to 1,500 participants and 3,000 spectators. In addition, this race will serve as a qualifier for the UCI World Championships.
