On Monday 17 March 2025, Luxembourg Ministry of Culture and the National Institute for Architectural Heritage (INPA) launched a call for projects, inviting institutions, associations, cultural organisations, municipalities and individuals to participate in this year’s European Heritage Days, which will take place from 19 to 28 September 2025.
This year's theme, "Heritage and Architecture: Windows to the Past, Doors to the Future", highlights the richness and diversity of architectural landscapes that shape Europe’s cultural identity. The theme also marks the 50th anniversary of the 1975 "European Architectural Heritage Year", an initiative by the Council of Europe that played a key role in recognising architectural heritage as a fundamental aspect of quality of life and in strengthening preservation efforts across Europe, according to the statement.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the "Architectural Heritage" theme showcases the artistic and technical achievements of architecture, ranging from the grand monuments of major cities to the vernacular structures of rural areas. It emphasises that architecture is more than just functional; “it serves as a powerful symbol of local and national history.”
The 2025 European Heritage Days aim to engage a wide audience in exploring architectural heritage. The Ministry of Culture noted that a variety of events and awareness projects may be organised, including guided tours of historic buildings or sites, museum exhibitions, workshops, conferences, craftsmanship demonstrations, introductions to heritage professions and techniques, digital heritage projects, concerts and other heritage-related activities.
