On Wednesday 15 January 2025, Luxembourg's Minister of Culture, Eric Thill, invited representatives of the cultural sector of Luxembourg to the Mierscher Theater for the traditional New Year's drink: within the momentum towards the future, this festive occasion also allowed the Minister to warmly thank the cultural actors as well as the agents of the Ministry for their commitment and their dynamism towards the sector.
After reviewing the main projects and events of the past year, the Minister recalled the essential role of culture in our democratic societies: "Culture strengthens the links between populations and brings people together, where other subjects divide."
Minister Thill also focused on upcoming projects and challenges, including the continued implementation of the Kulturentwécklungsplang 2018-2028 and the development of a new cultural development plan from 2028, and even the strengthening of support for the cultural sector and artists, as well as the improvement of cultural accessibility for all audiences.
Cultural Forums dedicated to accessibility
Minister Thill stated: "I hope that in the months and years to come, we, that is to say the ministry, together with all cultural institutions and structures, creators, artists and cultural actors, as well as civil society actors, will think more about the audiences of tomorrow, and that we will engage in a deep reflection on accessibility."
This desire is reflected, among other things, by increased support for the Kulturpass initiative, in particular accompanying the digitalisation efforts that have been initiated. Furthermore, the Minister announced that accessibility and audiences will be the central themes of the next Cultural Conference to be held in June 2025, and that an action plan dedicated to improving access to Culture is currently being developed.
To conclude, Minister Thill thanked everyone present for their unwavering commitment to a dynamic and flourishing cultural sector.
