On Thursday 13 June 2024, the streaming portal for libraries "filmfriend" announced that it was expanding its presence in Luxembourg.
An additional five Luxembourg libraries have chosen to offer their users filmfriend's free and unlimited video on demand (VOD) service. Library users from the Bibliothèque Publique Régionale in Dudelange, the Bibliothèque Municipale in Differdange, the Escher Bibliothéik (Esch-sur-Alzette), the Mierscher Lieshaus (Mersch) and the Ettelbrécker Bibliothéik (Ettelbruck) can now access the filmfriend catalogue from any device, without advertising or collection of personal data.
Filmfriend has an international catalogue of over 2,700 films and series available in Luxembourg, a constantly expanding collection with new acquisitions every week. It offers a variety of films for all ages, themed collections and a curated homepage offering recommendations.
As the first unlimited streaming VOD service for libraries, filmfriend aims to contribute to cultural democratisation by making high-quality cinema accessible to library users and helping libraries transition to digital media.
Filmfriend originated in Germany and is currently active in six European countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. It has been present in MéNuLu (Luxembourgish VOD service) since February 2022 and is now available in eight libraries in Luxembourg.
