As Buergbrennen draws nearer, the public is reminded that it is only permitted to burn natural wood on this Luxembourg cultural event.

The Environment Administration and the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development have reiterated that the Buergbrennen is a cultural activity that is not covered by the scope of the amended law of 21 March 2012 on waste. Thus, whilst burning natural wood is permitted for this purpose, the burning of waste, treated wood, furniture or even pallets of chemically treated wood is still not allowed.

It is recommended to burn only dry wood that burns better and emits fewer pollutants. In addition, it is not recommended to use gasoline or other artificial firelighters to light the firebrand.
