The British-Luxembourg Society (BLS) has announced that it is organising its annual Sir Winston Churchill Memorial Lecture at Neumünster Abbey in Luxembourg-Grund on Monday 30 May 2022 at 18:00; following a virtual lecture in 2021, this year's event is returning to its traditional in-person format.

This year, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the BLS, Jean-Claude Juncker, former Prime Minister of Luxembourg and President of the European Commission, will speak on the subject: "A Changing Europe: Full Circle?".

Jean-Claude Juncker has served in many governmental posts, most notably as Luxembourg's Prime Minister (1995-2013), President of the Eurogroup (2004-2013) and President of the European Commission (2014-2019).

By the time he left office as Prime Minister in 2013, Jean-Claude Juncker was the longest-serving head of any national government in the European Union (EU) and one of the longest-serving democratically elected leaders in the world, with his tenure encompassing the introduction of the euro currency, the European financial and sovereign debt crisis, the 2015 European migrant crisis and the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the EU (Brexit).

This event, facilitated by BLS Patron Patrick Santer, also includes introductory speeches by Louise Benjamin (President of the BLS), the British Ambassador to Luxembourg Fleur Thomas, Guy Dockendorf (Fondation Nationale de la Résistance - FONARES) and Patrick Santer.

The Sir Winston Churchill Memorial Lecture 2022 is a members-only event. BLS members wishing to attend should confirm their attendance via email by 15 April 2022: secretary@b-l-s.lu. Further information is available at: https://b-l-s.lu/events/current-events/swcml2022.

This event is organised by the BLS Patrons and Council together with the British Embassy in Luxembourg and FONARES.
