Luxembourg's Ministry of Consumer Protection has announced that it is organising, together with the European Commission, a "Consumer Dialogue” on the Commission's "New Consumer Agenda" on Wednesday 27 April 2022.

The New Consumer Agenda describes the European Commission's programme for the next five years in terms of consumer policy. As this is a competence shared between the Member States and the European Union (EU), it must be understood and supported at both the national and European levels. Therefore, Luxembourg's Ministry of Consumer Protection and the Commission are organising a Consumer Dialogue in April, preceded by a survey on consumer expectations and concerns.

With its New Consumer Agenda, the European Commission presented last year its priorities and actions for the next five years, including in particular the EU's green and digital transformation. Carrying out all these activities (at European and national level) requires close collaboration between all stakeholders, with a particular focus on consumers.

As in previous years, the Commission is organising a Consumer Dialogue in each Member State to support the implementation of the new agenda. In Luxembourg, this exchange will take place on 27 April 2022.

On this occasion, the floor will be given to consumers and other interested parties. They can get involved and express their ideas during a design thinking workshop. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance which can serve as a training certificate.

The presentation of the results of this consultation will take place at the end of the day in the presence of Luxembourg's Minister of Consumer Protection, Paulette Lenert and representatives of the European Commission, as well as national and European experts.

In view of the health situation, the entire day will be designed in such a way that it can take place face-to-face or in a digital or even hybrid way.

Ahead of this event, the Ministry of Consumer Protection will organise a national survey, divided into two parts. The first consists of a questionnaire addressed to consumers. It focuses on consumer confidence in existing policies as well as their problems and concerns in the areas of information, online shopping and the sustainability of the goods and services they consume. The questionnaire is open to anyone interested via the following link: https://gd.lu/7HRBp0 (English version).

The results of this questionnaire will be explored further in the second part of the survey, which will take the form of focus groups. These groups will be held from mid-March 2022. Consumers will have the opportunity to present their concerns and suggestions. Registration for these groups can be done via the following link: https://gd.lu/7HRBp0 (English version).

The conclusions of the questionnaire and the discussion groups will be used to fuel discussion on 27 April, as well as to feed reflections at the European level and projects at the national level.
