The University of Luxembourg, in cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), will host a conference on Tuesday 25 October at 10:00 at the Black Box (Maison des Sciences Humaines, Belval Campus, 2 Avenue de l’Université, L-4365 Esch-sur-Alzette), exploring the topic of digital identity and the Internet.

The keynote speech will be delivered by David Shrier, Managing Director of MIT Connection Science, a cross-disciplinary initiative to help business executives, investors, entrepreneurs and policymakers unlock the multitude of new opportunities offered by the new hyperconnected world in which we live.

Mr Shrier will speak on the importance of creating an “Internet of Trusted Identity”, where people can be ensured that their personal information-identification, health records and prescriptions, finances, and other data are safe, secure, and accessible to only those who are authorised with a need to know. He will explore how trust can be earned and why it is needed to seize the huge societal benefits offered by digital technology.

The event will also feature several speakers from the University of Luxembourg who will outline perspectives on financial technology research in their respective disciplines and research units:

• Prof. Björn Ottersten – Interdisciplinary Centre for Security Reliability and Trust (SnT)

• Prof. Jean-Louis Schiltz – Research Unit in Law (RUL)

• Dr. Denitsa Stefanova – Luxembourg School of Finance (LSF)

Opening remarks will be delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance, Prof. Stefan Braum, together with Prof. Ottersten. A Q&A hosted by Prof. Dirk Zetzsche (ADA Chair in Financial Law/Inclusive Finance at the University of Luxembourg) will follow.

The conference will be held in English. Paid parking is available at Belval Campus (Maison du Savoir) or the nearby Square Mile and Belval Plaza.

The conference is free to attend. View the full programme online at www.uni.lu
