On 17 and 18 October 2016, Luxembourg’s Minister for Equality, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, attracted more than 250 national and international participants to the 3rd International Conference on Men and Equal Opportunities.
The conference, entitled “Who cares, who shares”, dealt with the role of men in the fights for equal opportunities. The ministers and secretaries of state from eight European countries discussed the topic with one another.
During his welcome speech, Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel highlighted the fact that there is a long way to go to obtaining equal opportunities and asked for efforts to be made by both genders. He congratulated minister Lydia Mutsch for having brought together male and female experts from 20 countries.
According to the Minister for Equality, it is important to “actively involve men in order to achieve a greater gender balance as much in the professional domain as in household tasks and the upbringing of children.”
At the end of the first evening, Lydia Mutsch handed the organisation of the conference over to her Swedish counterpart, Asa Regner, who will be in charge of continuing with the project in Sweden in 2018.
