On 30 September 2016, members of the Luxembourgish government met to exchange views with social partners at Chateau de Senningen on the subject of “The Third Industrial Revolution Strategy”.
Xavier Bettel, Étienne Schneider, Nicolas Schmit and Francine Closener were among those present at the meeting regarding the above-mentioned economic strategy, which was launched in September last year. The aim of the initiative, created by the Ministry of the Economy, the Chamber of Commerce and IMS Luxembourg, is to develop a more sustainable economic strategy for the Grand Duchy. It is being carried out in close collaboration with American economist Jeremy Rifkin.
The government informed its social partners of the state of workplaces, particularly in regard to the “Third Industrial Revolution” in terms of employment. It also reminded those present of Luxembourg’s participation in offering reflection on the consequences of technological progress on work at the heart of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
Following the presentation of the strategic study on the “Third Industrial Revolution”, which will take place on 14 November 2016, the government will take part in a long consultation of its major institutions, such as the Economic and Social Council and the Supreme Council for Sustainable Development, as well as several other organisations representing young people, such as the Youth Parliament. Finally, there will be a consultation debate in the Chamber of Deputies on the subject.
Since the beginning of Rifkin’s study, more than 300 socio-economic figures have become actively involved in the process, which is open to everyone. The national strategy will be presented in the next edition of “Luxembourg Sustainability Forum” and will take place on 14 November at Luxexpo in Kirchberg. Jeremy Rifkin himself, as well as representatives of partner organisations, such as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Economy, will be in attendance.
