The recent first edition of the Cybersecurity Forum 2016 organised by POST and EBRC, and held at the Chambre de Commerce in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, highlighted the critical issues of cyber security.

300 cyber security professionals attended the event and discovered the common approach by EBRC and POST Luxembourg of apprehension towards the threat and solutions being implemented for better protection.

As illustrated by Marc Elsberg, author of the bestseller "Black-Out", there is a major systemic risk linked to the cyber-threat, which can cause large-scale disastrous consequences. The author of the novel, as an introduction to this event, demonstrated how the exploitation of a flaw on a strategic and critical infrastructure could have disastrous consequences epidemic across a vast territory. In a world where the elements are increasingly interconnected, the risks multiply. At the heart of a completely dependent society of technology, an accidental or intentional act can lead to chain reactions leading - he illustrated the paralysis of hospitals - to the stopping of the supply of food, a cut-off all telecommunications, which are essential to respond following an attack.

A study conducted in advance of the conference revealed a very high  confidence index in Luxembourg as to the level of protection applied in organisations; at the event, participants appreciated the current level of cyber threat and heightened challenge that results.

- 67% of companies were victims of a loophole in the last 12 months,
- €75k is the average cost of a security flaw,
- 21% of faults are detected by a third party,
- 69% of faults are detected after 1 and before 6 months.
