As part of the 'Betriber an Ëmwelt / Entreprises et Environnement' series, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastucture held an information seminar on Thursday 22 October 2015, aimed at informing SMEs of simple solutions to reduce their carbon footprint.

Organised in collaboration with the Chambre de Commerce, the conference aimed to outline the existing concepts in the field of mobility which can be employed by small and medium enterprises to this end. The event formed part of a conference cycle, organised by the Administration de l'Environnement (AEV) and LIST, involving a series of information sessions on topics related to the environment.

It was discovered that for many of the 40 participants for Thursday's event were unaware of the impact of transport on their carbon footprint, with the session subsequently allowing them to discover simple solutions, often requiring little human or financial effort, to implement in the field of mobility with a view to reducing their carbon footprint.

The Enterprise Mobility Plan
The Enterprise Mobility Plan is a voluntary participation approach, whereby public authorities encourage businesses and governments to optimise their travel activities to reduce individual car use in favour of other alternative modes of transport, such as public transport and soft mobility. The Verkéiersverbond, the Community of Transport in Luxembourg, offers mConcept, helping to achieve the Enterprise Mobility Plan in the three stages of diagnosis, action plan, launch support and action plan support.

SMOVE
An eco-mobility solution from the SUSTAIN SA company, SMOVE aims to ensure the efficiency of a company by reducing economic, social and environmental impacts and optimising the positive effects of corporate activity of all their stakeholders.

City Mov'
Established in Luxembourg in 2009 and integrated into the Enovos Group in 2014, City Mov' offers electric mobility solutions. City MOv' provides both mobility studies and recommendations.

ALD Automotive
ALD Automotive Luxembourg supports companies in their eco-friendly endeavours through three steps, these being the promotion of efficient vehicles (ALD switch), awareness for drivers on the reduction of consumption and the number of claims through driving courses, and emissions compensations for vehicle fleets in partnership with MyClimate.

At the conference, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure also highlighted the problems and challenges in mobility and the overall strategy for sustainable mobility at the national level, as well as across borders. In addition, LIST presented an environmental assessment, technological levers and political improvement, of electric mobility.

LIST provided results-based analyses of research projects conducted by the association in the field of mobility, examining the environmental impacts generated by conventional, hybrid and electric vehicles throughout their life cycle, using the methodology of the Life Cycle Assessment and an analysis on policy evaluation in promoting electromobility in the Grand Duchy. This was carried out through an efficacy comparison and environmental view of different measures.
