On Saturday 4 March 2023, the British Ladies Club (BLC) held their annual Table Quiz at the Centre Culturel in Beggen.

With ten rounds of eight questions, plus a joker round where teams could double their points, the maximum score possible was 90 points.

Quizmaster Geoff Thompson started at a quick-fire pace, getting through General Knowledge, Entertainment, Cinema, History and Science & Nature in the first hour, before the break. By this stage, just one team had played their joker and one team (not the same one) had etched out a slender lead, with the other five teams neck-and-neck.

The club had arranged for everyone to bring their own drinks, plus snacks if wanted, as well as for the Los Maracas food truck supplying tasty hot tacos, quesadillas and burritos.

After the break, the quiz resumed with rounds on Geography, Literature, Sport, Current Affairs and Food & Drink.

At the end, it was so, so close. While Jacob's Crackers held their lead from half-time, finishing on 68.5 points, there were four teams that finished within one point of each other: while two teams tied on 58 points, The Luxos finished third on 58.5 points, to be pipped by just half a point by Canucks who came second on 59 points.

The quizmaster remarked that he was delighted that there were no zero points recorded by any team in any rounds (the lowest was 2.5), while just one team achieved a perfect score of eight points on one round.
