The American Women’s Club of Luxembourg (AWCL) has announced that the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas (FAWCO) Foundation (of which AWCL is a member) is organising a Foundation Night to celebrate women's right to vote at the Parc Alvisse Hotel in Luxembourg-Dommeldange on Saturday 21 March 2020 at 19:00.
Foundation Night 2020 will celebrate the hard-won right to vote for women across the globe. While this year sees the US celebrate the centenary of women's suffrage, many other countries secured the right to vote for women long before - and after. As recent as 2015, women in Saudi Arabia gained the right to vote (at least in municipal elections).
The evening includes dinner and a DJ. As well as celebrating women's right to vote, Foundation Night 2020 is a fundraising event: there will be raffle tickets to buy and lots of prizes to be won, as well as a live auction (with twelve trips up for grabs, from Moscow to Morocco). All proceeds will go to FAWCO Charities, which will be announced on the evening itself.
Guests are encouraged to dress up like in the 1920s, for example as their favourite suffragette, or to purchase ready-made sashes featuring slogans at the event.
Foundation Night 2020 costs USD $50 (including dinner). Partners and friends are also welcome, as are non-members of the AWCL / FAWCO Foundation.
