On Saturday 24 October 2015, the first conference on the reception and integration of refugees in the municipalities of the Müllerthal region was held in Berdorf.
The meeting was organised by the Mouvement d'Egalité des Chances (MEC) Müllerthal and the Agence Interculturelle of the Association de Soutien aux Travailleurs Immigrés (ASTI), with the objective of presenting the current situation on refugee arrivals in Luxembourg, existing resources for the reception and integration of refugees at the communal level and the actions and projects that could potentially be implemented in this region.
Minister for Family and Integration Corinne Cahen invited communes to act in a collaborative manner to facilitate the reception and local integration of refugees and create a basis for commune cooperation in Müllerthal.
The ASTI Agence Interculturelle and MEC Müllerthal reinstated their readiness to support communes in this hospitality and local integration of refugess. The Communal Integration Plan supported by SYVICOL and OLAI was cited as a potential aid in this regard.
The meeting followed the decision taken by a Friday Luxembourg cabinet meeting to establish reception facilities at the four sites of Diekirch, Junglinster, Mamer and Steinfort.
