On Thursday 14 October 2015, Handicap International was awarded €5,500 in funds raised during the 16th edition of the 1000km Hesper run in July earlier this year.

The 2015 1000km Hesper run was held on 12 July 2015 by the 'Laftreff Hesper' committee with the support of the municipality of Hesperange as a means of raising proceeds for Handicap International, selected as this year's recipient. 569 participants put their best foot forward in Hesperange park, covering 7,530 kilometres and raising €5,500 for HI's projects in Nepal.

At the cheque ceremony, attended by Mayor of Hesperange Mr. Lies and 'Laftreff Hesper' officials, Member of the Board of Handicap International, Eric van de Kerkhove, spoke of the various actions undertaken by the organisation in the country since 2001, including the emergency responses to the two consecutive earthquakes which devastated the region in April.

The longstanding work performed by HI in collaboration with local actors enabled the association to provide logistical and humanitarian assistance within hours of the disaster occurring, and more than 8,000 rehabilitation sessions have been conducted in the field since. Around 1,300 mobility aids, including wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and splints were distributed to almost 1,900 vulnerable people during this period.
