After participating in the Chopin festival a year ago, Israeli pianist Boris Giltburg will make a return to the CAPE stage on Thursday 19 November 2015 .
In addition to a piece by Russian composer Sofia Gubaiduliana, the piano virtuoso will be performing great works from a classical repertoire which includes Schumann, Ravel and Rachmaninoff.
BBC Music Magazine has described Boris Giltburg as "one of the most passionate young musicians of our time" and as a winner of the 2013 Queen Elisabeth competition, Giltburg has not since failed to draw attention. He was born in Moscow in 1984 and grew up in Tel Aviv, but his tours lead him on worldwide adventures with renowned orchestras and under the direction of conductors such as Zubin Mehta and Mikhail Pletnev.
"Giltburg has the singing line, variety of touch and broad dynamic palette capable of great surges of energy that characterise the most gifted Rachmanioff pianists," wrote the Washington Post in November of last year. "He communicates with the audience effortlessly...the touching simplicity of utterance he brought to the exquisite slow movement was breathtaking".
Giltburg has won a variety of awards for his playing, and made his BBC Proms debut in 2010, three years before his Queen Elisabeth win. In February earlier this year, the English Daily Telegraph newspaper stated that the young pianist "has the capacity to identify with and encapsulate the moods of each piece while artlessly crafting them into a shapely span".
