On Tuesday 17 June 2025, Fondation Caritas issued a statement to clarify certain points related to its financial scandal.

Fondation Caritas stated that its Board of Directors had not been informed of any financial issues prior to 15 July 2024, despite regular meetings covering topics such as compliance, irregularities and fraud.

On 15 July 2024, management reportedly first disclosed problems with credit lines. In response, the Board requested immediate clarification and called for a review of the financial service operations within three months.

On 16 July 2024, the Director General initiated the requested checks, filed a complaint regarding the detected fraud and updated the Board on the situation. The Board is said to have held two additional meetings that day to take further decisions based on the newly available information.

The statement also addressed the fact that Fondation Caritas' then Vice President, Pit Bouché, acknowledged having regular communication with then Head of Operations Tom Brassel, but maintained that he had never been alerted to any alarming financial concerns.

This contrasts with Tom Brassel's earlier claim that he had warned Pit Bouché about the large credit lines weeks before the €61 million embezzlement scandal came to light.
