On Friday 13 September 2024, the Caritas Foundation Luxembourg issued a press release concerning the current "Caritas Dossier" in which they confirmed that the Caritas Foundation Luxembourg will end its international activities.

"Since the announcement of the misappropriation of funds, the International Cooperation team of the Caritas Foundation Luxembourg has been working intensively to mitigate the impact on beneficiaries abroad. Thanks to the international network of Caritas and other actors, some projects will be able to continue, others will end as planned but unfortunately some projects will have to be abandoned.

Despite all these efforts, the Caritas Foundation Luxembourg is forced to end its international activities.

This decision unfortunately results in the loss of jobs for around 30 employees of the Foundation in Luxembourg, as well as 70 employees in South Sudan and Laos. The Foundation's offices in Laos and South Sudan will therefore close their doors by 31 October 2024. In addition, around a hundred partners and consultants will also be affected by this cessation of activities.

The most vulnerable beneficiaries will be the hardest hit by this situation. More than 60 projects will be stopped, leaving thousands of people in precarious situations and thousands without hope, hope that they had found again thanks to the activities of international cooperation. As a reminder, the Caritas Luxembourg Foundation has played an important role in regions such as West Africa, Ukraine, Moldova, South Sudan, Kosovo, Turkey, Laos, Bangladesh and the Middle East, providing services ranging from food security to humanitarian aid, including development initiatives and support for vulnerable populations".

The Caritas Luxembourg Foundation thanked the people who have contributed financially or through their personal commitment to enable the continuity of national activities for the most deprived in Luxembourg, and "very much deplores that any actor has intervened to allow our highly motivated, competent and professional teams to continue their activities for these beneficiaries on an international scale".
