The Bazar International de Luxembourg (International Bazaar) drew over 8,000 visitors on its opening evening on Friday 11 November 2022, confirmed Carmen Decalf, President of the International Bazaar.

The much-anticipated International Bazaar is taking place at Luxexpo The Box in Luxembourg-Kirchberg from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 November 2022.

On Saturday afternoon, Her Royal Highnesses the Grand Duchess and the Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg visited the International Bazaar. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa is also the patron of the International Bazaar.

Speaking to Chronicle.lu on Saturday 12 November 2022, Carmen Decalf, explained that the Friday evening opening, which was maintained this year following its introduction in 2021 during the COVID-19 health measures, received over 3,200 visitors in the first hour, showing the huge public interest in the event. She expects between 25,000 and 28,000 total visitors during the two-and-a-half-day event.

This year features 49 countries and seven generic stands (e.g. book stands, etc.) and over 1,400 volunteers managing the stands in addition to 90 volunteers from PwC Luxembourg.

Kenya, Colombia and Afghanistan, participating for the first time, have further added to the variety of foods, clothes and merchandise.

In addition to being a community-based event, the International Bazaar is highly regarded for its support for charities. The International Bazaar Committee has selected 43 charities to support. Of these, Ursilin Sisters from South Sudan has been chosen as the main project. Explaining the choice of the committee, Ms Decalf said: "Three women working seven days [every week] as volunteers helping a big region of 300,000 people with any type of medical care, education and vocational training. They are doing about 2,400 medical services per month. They are helped by a doctor and two other volunteers. Two women are midwives and one is a nurse. They are really dedicated to a big region and people in need".
