A total of 364 teams and 8,772 individuals participated in this year's Relais pour la Vie (relay for life) fundraising event, which took place in a "connected" format across Luxembourg and beyond its borders on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 March 2022.

For this second connected edition, organised by the Fondation Cancer, participants raised a total of €538,734 for cancer research.

"By relaying, you show your solidarity with cancer patients and their families. Every year, thousands of you answer the call and that makes me proud", said Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess in her opening video message. "As Honorary President of the Fondation Cancer, it is important to me that our commitment to patients never ceases".

The Grand Duchess along with Luxembourg's Minister of Health, Paulette Lenert, the partners of Relais pour la Vie, the Director and President of the Fondation Cancer, survivors and caregivers were present throughout the weekend.

Like every year, several teams will be rewarded for the excellence of their commitment. The teams competed in six categories to win a "Trophée de l'Espoir" (trophy of hope). The winning teams were:

- Team Italia (category: country): €6,050

- LGK CapFutur (category: schools): €18,040.70

- Support Sélina Knepper (category: supporters): €8,500

- Carpe Diem asbl (category: associations and clubs): €7,150

- Hôpitaux Robert Schuman (category: health professions): €3,735

- Swiss Re (category: companies and institutions): €10,500

"We would like to thank all the participants for their commitment, their presence and their generosity", commented Lucienne Thommes, Director of the Fondation Cancer. "It is thanks to this outpouring of solidarity that we can fund research, offer support to patients and their loved ones and provide information on cancer".

Many of the participating teams shared photos, videos and messages of hope to the Relai pour la Vie social wall, which can be found online at: www.relaispourlavie.lu.
