On Monday 29 June 2026, the Centre for the Luxembourgish Language (Zenter fir d'Lëtzebuerger Sprooch - ZLS) announced the publication of the eighth volume of the Lëtzebuerger Wuertschatz (Luxembourgish Vocabulary) series, dedicated to Luxembourgish insults.
According to ZLS, the book presents 117 Luxembourgish insults, each accompanied by an illustration, an example sentence and translations into German, French, English and Portuguese.
In the foreword, Luxembourg's Minister for Culture, Eric Thill, writes: "The figures speak for themselves: the insults category is one of the most popular sections of the Luxembourgish Online Dictionary. It therefore seemed only natural that, after several more conventional volumes, we should publish something a little bolder. Certainly not to encourage people to be ruder to one another! Quite the opposite: to celebrate together just how creative the Luxembourgish language – like every other language – can be: Leitsgeheier, Intebinni, Kriddelschass, Muertentrëppelesch.”
The new volume has been available in bookshops since Monday at a retail price of €12.50.
