Auchan Retail Luxembourg has raised a total of €30,450 to support local non-profit organisation SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde (SOSVEM).

Following their 14th solidarity action, which took place from 1 to 18 September 2021 across Luxembourg's three Auchan hypermarkets and in partner stores in their shopping centres, the managers of Auchan Retail Luxembourg invited SOSVEM to their traditional cheque presentation.

During Auchan's 25th anniversary year in Luxembourg, a total of €30,450 was raised across the three sites, in Kirchberg, Differdange and Cloche d'Or. This sum will be donated to a new emergency aid project in Ethiopia focused on nutrition and health.

The cheque presentation took place at the Auchan Cloche d'Or Lifestore, in the presence of its director Frédéric Vital, as well as Peggy Kieffer, Leader of the Customer Service Sector, Mathieu Goupil, head of the Cloche d'Or till department, and several cashiers from the three sites.

Director Sophie Glesener and partnerships manager Anne Schweizer represented SOSVEM on this occasion. They commented: "We warmly thank the very committed management and teams of Auchan Luxembourg for their commitment to the cause of children. We also warmly thank the customers for their generosity. Together, we have made a vital focus on food security and nutrition at a time when hunger, coupled with other major crises, continues to gain ground in the world and wreak havoc among the most vulnerable. Together, we can support a major emergency aid project in Ethiopia. It relates to the essential protection of children and the vital issue of food security".

Under development in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, the new project is being led by local SOS partners to support thousands of people who have been internally displaced as a result of inter-communal conflict. The project emphasises the essential issues of health and nutrition, but also the economic empowerment of adults and the education of children.
