For the fourth consecutive year, the NGO ECPAT Luxembourg is organising a week of various events around the theme of the 6th European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, taking place on Monday 18 November 2020.
During this awareness week, the general public will have the opportunity to learn about the sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of children, in Luxembourg and beyond, learn how to protect themselves from it and what we can do to fight against it.
This year, in view of the current health context and in the interests of everyone's safety, there will be no face-to-face events during “ECPAT Week”, which has been extended to run from today, Thursday 12 November, until Monday 23 November 2020. Since it is still so important to learn about the sexual exploitation of children in order to better combat it, ECPAT is offering a whole series of events and information online: webinars, podcasts, books, articles and online resources. The week will end with a film and a live debate with one of the NGO's partners in India.
ECPAT Week 2020 will centre around three topics: the most widespread forms of sexual exploitation in Luxembourg; the different forms of sexual exploitation in the world; and trafficking for sexual purposes.
On the first topic:
- the Council of Europe is organising a webinar entitled "Preventing risky behavior in children: self-generated sexual images and / or videos by children" on Thursday 12 November 2020, from 14:00-16:30;
- on the same theme of self-generated images, ECPAT will once again present its comic book produced by and for young people in Luxembourg;
- the NGO will also promote the website on children's rights achieved with the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth.
On the second topic, the NGO will be offering a series of podcasts on the topic of child sexual exploitation.
On the third topic:
- the NGO will offer articles and books related to trafficking for sexual purposes;
- the NGO will show the documentary "Not My Life", available to watch online, from 18-22 November. The film takes viewers to thirteen countries and shows different forms of child exploitation,. Not My Life gives a voice to survivors, as well as organisations like ECPAT which fight trafficking and exploitation, but also presents the harsh testimony of a trafficker;
- the week will end with an online debate, on 23 November at 18:00, with one of the NGO's partners in India on the Mukti project on child sex trafficking in India, Bangladesh and Nepal, and ECPAT's work on prevention, rescue and reintegration of girls.
