The Fondation du Grand-Duc et de la Grande-Duchesse has announced its donation of €40,000 to Caritas Luxembourg for the fight against famine in South Sudan.

On Wednesday 21 October 2020, Their Royal Highnesses the Hereditary Grand Duke and the Hereditary Grand Duchess presented a cheque to Marie-Josée Jacobs, President of Caritas Luxembourg, at the NGO's headquarters.

The sum was raised thanks to those who donated in the context of the birth of His Royal Highness Prince Charles in May this year. The donation has enabled Their Royal Highnesses the Hereditary Grand Duke and the Hereditary Grand Duchess to support children's aid projects implemented by Caritas Luxembourg in South Sudan, where more than one million children currently suffer from acute malnutrition and one in ten children die under the age of five. The situation has deteriorated further as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The foundation explained that the substantial amount of the donation reflects the desire of the Hereditary Grand Duke and Hereditary Grand Duchess to send a strong message in the face of famine in Africa, which has been made worse by the health crisis.
